(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement regarding the U.S. Navy’s decision to not return the USS Nimitz to Naval Station Everett.
“Naval Station Everett is a strategically important home base for our national security, as well as a point of pride and an economic engine for the greater Everett community. While I am glad the USS Nimitz will remain in the Puget Sound, I am concerned about the Navy’s apparent disregard for long-term local impacts, the lack of transparency surrounding this process, and how that all affects the Navy’s long-standing relationships with communities around Washington state. I will be demanding answers from the Navy about this process, and urging the Secretary to listen to the concerns of the community before making any further moves.”
