Unemployment benefits
could end soon, leaving those receiving the benefits without any source
of income unless a new bill is passed.
U.S.
Senator Patty Murray gave a speech today to try and get more support
for unemployed people in Washington.
The
senator says it’s time to address a real kitchen table issue for
families all across the country, and for those in Washington who could
have no where else to turn if their benefits run out by the end of the
year.
In a speech given on the U.S.
Senate floor today, Murray shared stories and stressed the importance of
passing an unemployment extension that would include up to 20 extra
weeks of benefits.
A paycheck is what
Murray says people need to still have while they recover from tough job
losses.
The extension of unemployment
benefits could be voted on in the senate this week.
