Statement by Senator Patty Murray on Istook Letter on FFGA

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Today Rep. Ernest Istook sent a letter to FTA Administrator Jenna Dorn removing his objections to the signing of the FFGA for Sound Transit.

Sen. Murray released the following statement:

“This is great news for taxpayers and travelers throughout the Puget Sound. Despite the hurdles that have been thrown at it, Sound Transit is well on its way to moving passengers, and reducing congestion throughout the Puget Sound.

The FFGA guarantees $500 million to our region. These funds will not only improve congestion, but will create thousands of jobs designing, engineering, and building Link Light Rail. For jobs and transportation, this announcement is vital.

There is nothing in Congressman Istook’s list of conditions that Sound Transit hasn’t already accounted for. Sound Transit will be able to meet these criteria, have its FFGA signed, and begin moving forward directly.

Throughout the process I have been pleased with President Bush, Transportation Secretary Mineta and FTA Administrator Dorn for their continued support for Sound Transit.”
