(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, applauded the U.S. Department of Transportation’s announcement that Spokane International Airport will receive a $6 million grant to rehabilitate the taxiway. The funding will enable Spokane International to keep pace with the changing needs of the community and help with the rapid growth of passengers flying in and out of the airport.
“I’m pleased that we are investing in Spokane International Airport so it can continue to play a strong role in supporting the economy and transportation needs of eastern Washington,” said Senator Murray. “Spokane International is a vital portion of Washington State’s transportation infrastructure, and these funds will improve efficiency and safety at the airport.”
Senator Murray has been a strong advocate for infrastructure improvements at Spokane International. In July, Sen. Murray led the effort to pass a bipartisan transportation bill that would continue to invest in modernizing our aging air transportation system, but was blocked by the Republican leadership.
