(Washington, D.C.) – Today U.S. Senator Patty Murray made
the following statement after being briefed by the United States Trade
Representative on the World Trade Organization’s preliminary ruling on alleged
subsidies for the Boeing Company.
“This case was Airbus’ attempt to mask their record of
illegal subsidies that have cost Washington state jobs, but it’s clear from
today’s ruling that attempt has failed. This ruling reinforces what I have said
all along, Boeing and its workers have been competing on an uneven playing field.
The findings in today’s preliminary decision aren’t comparable with the
market-distorting, prohibited subsidies that Airbus has been found to use to
undercut our workers and hurt our aerospace economy. The two decisions are not
in the same ballpark or even the same league. Anyone who says they are isn’t
telling the real story.”
