Senator Murray’s Statement on White House Infrastructure Meeting

Washington, D.C. —Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the statement below following her visit to the White House today, where she joined House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and a group of other Democratic congressional leaders to discuss plans for legislation to address the nation’s infrastructure challenges.

“I was glad to join Democratic leaders at the White House today to meet with President Trump and discuss how we can possibly work together to find much-needed solutions to repair and improve our nation’s broken infrastructure. Democrats have long-recognized the need to invest in our nation’s roads, bridges, ports, waterways, and more to ensure families are able to navigate our communities safely and easily, as well as the importance of our transportation and infrastructure systems to our nation’s efforts to combat the urgent climate change crisis.

“It was a serious conversation that acknowledged we must have a big and bold plan to address our infrastructure challenges and invest critical federal dollars in infrastructure priorities that matter most to the people in our communities. Importantly, this also includes working to strengthen access to broadband internet so that no one in our increasingly digital world is left behind. However, any plans to fix our infrastructure challenges must be fair for workers in Washington state and nationwide, and there are still more discussions to be had regarding how we fund a comprehensive infrastructure proposal that meets the needs of working families in Washington state and beyond.

“As a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and a voice for Washington state, today was a step in the right direction, and I look forward to keeping the conversation going.”
