(Washington D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement after the assasination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto:
"I had the opportunity many years ago to meet and talk with Benazir Bhutto. She struck me as very courageous and determined for the people and country she loved. Today, sadly, we won’t know how elections in Pakistan could have changed the dynamics of this region. On a larger scale this violence and instability increases my concern that our troops and infrastructure are being used to police a civil war in Iraq. Today’s tragedy should serve as a reminder that we must refocus on winning the broader war on terror."
