WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray released the following statement after President Barack Obama nominated Thomas Perez to serve as the next U.S. Secretary of Labor.
“President Obama has made a fantastic choice by nominating Thomas Perez as our next Labor Secretary. Throughout his impressive career, Mr. Perez has served his country and his neighbors at the local, state, and federal levels. As a former County Councilman, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, and the current Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, I am confident he will be a strong leader at the Department of Labor.
“I look forward to working with Mr. Perez to ensure that we have the right workforce development, worker protection, and workplace safety programs in place to grow the middle class and meet the needs and realities of our modern economy. Among my priorities is reauthorizing the Workforce Investment Act, and I believe Mr. Perez will be a valuable partner in that process.”
