Senator Murray’s Statement on Manafort Conviction & Cohen Guilty Plea

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) issued a statement following new developments in two separate criminal cases involving President Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort and former personal lawyer Michael Cohen.

“Today’s news is another sad and stark reminder of the growing cloud of corruption and criminal activities surrounding President Trump. No matter what the President and his Republican allies will say or do to try to undermine the Mueller investigation in the coming hours or days, here are the facts: Not only did a jury convict the President’s former campaign chairman of fraud today, President Trump’s long-time personal attorney and fixer pleaded guilty to violating campaign finance laws by making illegal payments at the direction of President Trump in order to influence the election. These developments are real, they are serious, and they underscore the importance of allowing Robert Mueller to continue to follow the facts, wherever they may lead, to get the answers Americans deserve.”
