(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement on Equal Pay Day, which is tomorrow, April 12, 2011.
“Equal Pay Day should serve as a reminder to us all that despite the progress we’ve made over the years, women still aren’t equal on one important day: payday. So as we continue working to create jobs and get our economy back on track, we need to make sure that all workers benefit equally from equal work.
“That’s why I was so proud that we passed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and it’s why I have once again cosponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act and the Fair Pay Act, which would give working women and racial and ethnic minorities additional support and tools to fight for the equal pay they deserve.
“On Equal Pay Day we should all recommit to continuing the progress we have made as a nation by recognizing the full value of women’s skills and their significant contributions to the labor force.”
