Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee and a senior member and former chair of the Senate Budget Committee, issued the following statement after meeting with Russell Vought, President-elect Trump’s nominee for Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
“This afternoon, I met with Russ Vought to talk about his nomination and what I expect to see from the Office of Management and Budget in the new administration.
“Regrettably, the conversation did little to relieve my grave concerns about Mr. Vought again serving in the incredibly important role of OMB Director and his support for, among other things, unlawfully overriding the spending decisions made by Congress, gutting resources that working Americans count on every day, and giving President Trump the ability to summarily fire tens of thousands of civil servants if they refuse to do his bidding.
“I hope that during Mr. Vought’s upcoming committee hearings, my colleagues on both sides of the aisle will join me in attempting to get clear answers as to whether Mr. Vought would be an OMB Director who, at the very least, can be counted on to follow the law.”
