(Seattle, WA) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) issued the following statement on Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
“Today, we honor and celebrate the contributions of Native peoples and all the ways they enrich our communities—including here in Washington state. Today is also an important opportunity to confront the generations of trauma Indigenous people have faced and recommit to the hard work of addressing this painful legacy in a meaningful way.
“I’m so grateful President Biden officially designated today as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in recognition of Tribal communities across the country and of the work we have ahead as a nation. I am fighting every day to honor tribal treaty rights, make the investments Tribal communities need to thrive—and serve as a voice for Washington state’s Tribal governments and people in the United States Senate.”
