Senator Murray Statement on Boeing-Airbus Agreement with European Union

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), issued the following statement on the announced deal between the U.S. and European Union (EU) over the Boeing-Airbus trade dispute.

“After years of calling out the EU’s anti-competitive trade practices with regard to Airbus, I’m glad to see this critical step in the right direction towards a more even playing field. This is a positive development not just for Boeing and the thousands of aerospace workers who have directly suffered from this dispute and the EU’s illegal subsidies, but also many other industries across Washington state that have been caught up in the ensuing trade war. I will continue working with the Biden Administration and pushing for a lasting, fairer trade relationship that allows Washington state’s workers and manufacturers to thrive.”

Senator Murray has long led the charge to address the EU’s underhanded subsidies of Airbus, which have hurt American manufacturing in Washington state and across the country. After first speaking out against the EU’s unfair trade practices in 2004, Senator Murray has continued to push for the U.S. to stand up for Boeing and other American manufacturers in the WTO. When the World Trade Organization ruled that EU subsidies for Airbus were anti-competitive and illegal in 2019, Senator Murray issued a statement calling on Airbus and the EU to commit to a level playing field.
