(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement after the Senate Banking Committee, comprised of 12 Republicans and 11 Democrats, voted 13-10 to reject President Trump’s nominee to lead the Export-Import Bank, Scott Garrett.
“The Export-Import Bank is critical to the economy in my home state of Washington, and it deserves someone at the helm who believes in our workers and in U.S. manufacturing. Unfortunately, throughout the course of his nomination process, Scott Garrett failed to convince me that he was committed to the mission of the Ex-Im Bank or that he had abandoned his repugnant, anti-LGBTQ statements, so I applaud my colleagues on the Senate Banking Committee for rejecting his nomination. I would hope Republican leadership will not defy this Committee and attempt to advance this nomination any further. It is also now crucial for the full Senate to confirm the other five nominees to ensure Ex-Im can be a fully-functioning agency.”
