(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), senior member of the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee, announced that the Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane will receive funding to start construction of a new Wing Command Headquarters. The Air Force Base will receive $13.6 million to construct the new facility which will house the active duty 92nd Air Refueling Wing and the Washington Air National Guard 141st Air Refueling Wing Headquarters. The funding was included in the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Subcommittee Appropriations bill for the Fiscal Year 2012.
“I have seen firsthand how the current building is outdated and in desperate need of repair,” said Senator Murray. “We owe it to our airmen to provide them with an appropriate facility that will help them carry out their missions safely and effectively. That’s why I worked to secure these funds, and I’m so glad that the Fairchild Air Force Base will be able to start this long overdue project.”
In 2010, Senator Murray sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates urging him to make the new Wing Command Headquarters a priority for funding.
