(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced a $200 million investment in Moses Lake projects to boost battery supply chains and strengthen the growing electric vehicle (EV) market. These awards are part of the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Senator Murray helped negotiate, and will help accelerate domestic battery production, mitigate supply chain disruptions, and bolster energy independence in America.
“Every day, I’m working to lower energy costs and emissions—and that’s exactly why I helped pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and bring landmark investments to Washington state so we can continue to lead the country as we build a more sustainable, affordable, and energy independent future. These critical grants for two of Washington state’s very own battery manufacturingfacilities won’t just mean more good-paying jobs for workers in Moses Lake—it will also mean lower energy and electric vehicle costs for families across the country as we restore our supply chains and strengthen our clean energy infrastructure. I’m going to continue building on this historic progress to cut carbon emissions, create good-paying jobs, build climate-resilient infrastructure in our communities, and bring down costs for Washington state families,” said Senator Murray.
Senator Murray has fought to secure major investments in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help Washington state and the country transition to cleaner energy and electric vehicles—all while creating good-paying jobs. The historic legislation Senator Murray helped pass last year includes a historic $7.5 billion investment in electric vehicles and EV infrastructure to lower emissions and promote a stronger clean energy economy. Earlier this year, Senator Murray announced more than $10.4 million in funding for Washington state from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to build out a national electric vehicle charging network, an important step towards making EV charging accessible to all Americans. This initial investment of $10.4 million is just the first of five years of funding for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will provide nearly $5 billion nationally over the five years to help states create a network of EV charging stations along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors, particularly along the Interstate Highway System.
Notably, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law also included Senator Murray’s Clean School Bus Act, which provides federal grants to help transition the nation’s diesel school buses to zero emission, electric buses. The bipartisan package will allocate $5 billion towards zero emission and clean buses, and thanks to Senator Murray, funds will be prioritized for communities where air pollution is greatest.
Group14 Technologies Inc. and Sila Nanotechnologies are set to receive $100 million each for project sites in Moses Lake. More information on the federal grants can be found here.
