“Tonight the President described the danger Iraq poses to American interests. While that threat is real, I am saddened that we have reached the point that the President believes war is inevitable.
I hope and pray that the President has made the right decision to go to war. I also hope that the loss of life will be minimal.
We are grateful to the men and women who will be tasked with this difficult challenge and we pray for their safe return. I will continue to support our troops not only during the conflict, but after they come home.
The President’s decision to go to war rests in part on his new policy of preemption. I have serious concerns about the implications of this new policy for America’s long-term security. However, the international community should know that while we may have our disagreements before military action, once our troops are on the ground, I, like all Americans, stand with them.”
