(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray
(D-WA) was re-elected by the Democratic caucus to serve as Democratic
Conference Secretary – the fourth most powerful position among Senate
Democrats. Murray will be part of the elected leadership team responsible
for running the Democratic Caucus for the 112th congress. As Conference
Secretary of the Democratic Caucus, Murray will continue to help develop the
majority’s agenda and will help move legislation on the Senate floor. Senator
Murray was first elected Senate Conference Secretary in 2006 and has served in
appointed positions in the Democratic Leadership since 1999.
“I’m once again honored that my Democratic colleagues
have elected me to the leadership team of the Senate Majority for the coming
Congress. At a time when so much is on the line for Washington state and the
nation, I am looking forward to the opportunity to ensure our state’s
priorities are given a voice as we make difficult choices about our future.
“The seat at the table that this leadership position
provides is Washington state’s seat at the table. It has allowed me to
translate the concerns of our community leaders and families into successes
that include repairing the Howard Hanson Dam, accelerating Hanford cleanup,
investing in our infrastructure and helping to create family wage
jobs.
“In the coming Congress, I plan to use my role in the
leadership to continue to put Washington state workers back on the job, to
fight for veterans care, to ensure every Washington state child has a shot at a
quality education, and to make tough choices about our budget priorities.”
