(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) questioned Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Steven Chu about the Obama Administration’s 2010 Budget as it relates to Hanford cleanup, the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and the Department of Energy’s budget. Senator Murray, the second-ranking Democrat on the Budget Committee, will be working to ensure that Hanford receives the funding needed for the federal government to meet its legal and moral obligation to cleanup. She will also be working to ensure that the DOE budget recognizes the innovative work that is being done at PNNL facilities throughout the state.
At today’s hearing, Senator Murray invited Secretary Chu to visit Hanford and PNNL to see first-hand the critical work being done in Washington state.
