(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) applauded the U.S. Department of Labor’s announcement that YouthBuild Programs in Olympia, Spokane, Yakima, and Tacoma will each be awarded a $1,100,000 grant. YouthBuild is a workforce and community development program that serves youth ages 16-24.
“This is fantastic news for YouthBuild Programs in Washington state,” said Senator Patty Murray. “These innovative programs give at-risk youth a chance to get real, on-the-job skills training, while completing their high school education.”
The target population for YouthBuild is high school dropouts who may be youth aging out of foster care, youth with disabilities, adjudicated youth or other at-risk populations. The YouthBuild program uses a dual program model combining academic instruction and occupational skills training leading to the completion of a high school diploma or GED. Participants receive an opportunity to gain industry-recognized credentials in construction trades while gaining hands-on experience in the construction industry. More about YouthBuild.
