Senator Murray Applauds Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Announcement

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement after the Obama Administration certified the end to the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, a move prescribed in the legislation ending this policy that will allow them to accept openly gay and lesbian servicemembers in 60 days.

“Today’s certification is another crucial step forward as we finally end the failed ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy. I was proud to vote to repeal this law that has done a tremendous disservice to so many men and women who want nothing more than to defend their country and the freedoms America stands for. And I am very glad that 60 days from now, every member of our Armed Forces will be able to serve openly and proudly.”
