Senator Murray Announces New $11 Million Investment to Help Washington State Communities Combat Opioid Crisis

After announcement of $11 million last year, Washington state receives second grant for opioid response 

Funds come from $1 billion for opioid crisis response that Senator Murray fought to include in the 21^st Century Cures Act

ICYMI: Senator Murray Introduces Bipartisan Legislation to Address Urgent Opioid Crisis

(Washington, D.C.)  – Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), top Democrat on the Senate health committee, shared the news that Washington state would receive a second $11 million in funding from the Department of Health and Human Services to fight the opioid crisis. The funding is part of $1 billion to address the crisis that Senator Murray fought to include in the bipartisan 21^st Century Cures Act—which President Obama signed into law in December 2016.

“Visiting with those on the frontlines of this crisis in our state, I’ve seen firsthand how the resources we were able to secure last year have provided vital support to patients and families on their path to recovery through evidence-based programs, prevention, and treatment efforts, so I’m hopeful this year’s new funds can build on those efforts,” said Senator Murray. “Listening to the heartbreak of families and communities facing this crisis, it’s clear our work is not done, and I will continue fighting for action to help them.”

In addition to announcing the new funding from HHS, Senator Murray recently introduced an expansive, bipartisan package of solutions to support families and communities facing the opioid crisis, and also fought for new resources to be included in the recent bipartisan spending deal.
