Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced her Congressionally-directed spending requests for fiscal year 2022 so far. As of now, Senator Murray made 15 requests on behalf of public and nonprofit entities across Washington state. A list of Senator Murray’s spending requests so far can be found on her website HERE. Senator Murray will continue to review and submit requests until July 9th, 2021, a final list of her total requests will not be live until July 26th – requests will be uploaded on a rolling basis until then. Murray’s office has been soliciting input for appropriations requests from communities in every part of Washington state since April 12th and through May 21st.

My job as Senator is to fight for Washington state priorities in the other Washington, so I have always been supportive of making sure members of Congress have an opportunity to put funding for specific projects into appropriations bills that meet the needs of communities in their state.”
As Senator Murray continues to submit congressionally-directed spending requests, she is focused on projects that benefit communities across Washington state, especially projects that will benefit historically underserved populations and communities. As the second ranking Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Murray has been instrumental in securing major federal investments for Washington state priorities.
This fiscal year, Congressionally-directed spending is capped at 1% of total discretionary spending, potentially totaling about $15 billion. The Senate Appropriations Committee will carefully review all requests from Senators. Only those requests that comply with Committee and Senate rules and are deemed appropriate for federal support will be considered for funding. A link to the list of reforms can be found here.
