Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program award for Yakima County totals more than $450,000
This award comes from the HOME program, which Senator Murray has successfully fought to protect
Senator Murray: “Every person and family in Washington state deserves housing that is affordable, safe, and secure, and this award is an important step toward ensuring families across Central Washington have a stable home”
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced a housing award for Yakima County totaling more than $450,000. The funding comes from a Department of Housing and Urban Development grant program, the HOME program, which funds the acquisition and construction of secure, affordable housing for people and families in need.
“Every person and family in Washington state deserves housing that is affordable, safe, and secure, and this award is an important step toward ensuring families across Central Washington have a stable home,” Senator Murray said. “Grants like these are vital for so many people in our communities facing housing insecurity, and I’ll keep fighting to strengthen federal investments in affordable housing for families in our state and across the country.”

As a senior member of the Senate subcommittee responsible for housing appropriations, Senator Murray has been instrumental in continuing the HOME program, fighting not only to save the program from near elimination, but successfully working to increase its funding in a 2015 spending bill and protect that funding from attacks from the Trump Administration in spending bills over the past two years. The funding from this grant program is distributed on a formula basis, and this award follows more than $1.5 million in federal grants, including more than $450,000 from the HOME program, awarded to the city of Yakima in August.
