(Washington,
D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that the City of
Cashmere will receive a $6 million grant and $13 million loan for wastewater
system improvements. The funding was included in the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) which was signed into law in February of last
year.
Cashmere’s wastewater treatment
facilities, which were constructed in the 1960s, are located on the southeast
end of the city along the banks of the Wenatchee River. This funding will help
the city comply with new environmental regulations while meeting the capacity
needs of job-creating industrial growth.
“Our
rural communities deserve infrastructure that provides them with safe,
available water,”
said Senator Murray. “This investment will help the City of Cashmere
make critical improvements to their sewer system, which will help promote
economic development.”
