Nearly $6 million in federal relief will go to state-operated veterans homes across Washington state

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, today announced $5,851,410 in State Extended Care Facilities Construction Grant Awards through the American Rescue Plan for state veterans homes in Washington state. This federal investment will allow veteran home and care facilities to improve treatment of veterans during the pandemic, enhance cleaning services, provide personal protective equipment or other equipment, expand staffing levels to care for veterans, and so much more to give veterans the support they have earned.
“Our veterans have made countless sacrifices to provide us with the safety, security, and freedom we enjoy every day. When they return home from service, we have an obligation to provide them with the best possible care,” Senator Murray said. “Part of that is ensuring veteran care facilities have the resources they need to provide the quality care our veterans deserve. I’m glad we were able to secure this funding for Washington state veterans homes in the American Rescue Plan, and I will continue pushing for federal support for our state’s veterans and veteran care facilities as we work to build back stronger from this pandemic.”
A senior member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Senator Murray has been a longtime advocate for Washington state veterans, working to include billions of dollars in additional relief for veterans across the country in the American Rescue Plan including, $14.5 billion for health care services, $400 million for rapid retraining assistance, and $500 million to help states upgrade State Veterans Homes across the country in addition to the $250 million in one-time emergency grants to support these facilities and ensure they can care for our veterans during the pandemic.
