Murray calls possible proposal “cruel” and “heartless”—urges Trump Administration to immediately cease efforts
(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) today issued this statement following unofficial reports the Trump Administration may be considering a proposal to separate women and children crossing together into the U.S. via Mexico:
“I am absolutely appalled to learn of reports that the Trump Administration is considering action to specifically target mothers and children for separation at the border—there can be no possible justification for this cruel plan,” said Senator Patty Murray. “If President Trump is truly committed to solving our nation’s broken immigration system, he will get to work with Republicans and Democrats in Congress right away rather than just injecting fear and chaos into immigrant communities nationwide. I urge the Trump Administration to immediately stop any efforts to implement what would be an especially heartless part of its already damaging agenda.”
