(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), released the following statement after Alcoa announced it reached a new power agreement with the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) that will keep the Intalco plant in Ferndale open, preventing hundreds of previously anticipated layoffs. Sen. Murray had encouraged Alcoa and BPA to work together to secure this mutually beneficial power deal.
“This is great news for workers, families, and the Whatcom County community. It’s also a great example of government, industry, and labor working together for the good of an entire community,” Senator Murray said. “I applaud Alcoa for seeking a solution to keep hundreds of workers on the job, and BPA for its willingness to come to the table and help get this done.”
