WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement after the Senate voted to advance legislation reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank on a vote of 67-26.
“The Export-Import Bank is critical to businesses and workers in Washington state and across the country, and while it was irresponsible for Republicans to allow this important job-creating agency to lapse last month, I am encouraged that we took this important bipartisan step forward in the Senate today.
“I see the importance of the Export-Import bank wherever I go in communities across Washington state. Washington state produces some of the best products in the world, including apples, airplanes, beer, wine, software, medical training supplies, and so much more. The self-supporting Export-Import Bank allows Washington state companies to ship their products around the world, and as a result—these industries support tens of thousands of jobs in our state alone. The Export-Import Bank helps our economy grow from the middle out, not just the top down – and it’s the kind of economic tool that helps our country compete in the 21st century global economy we live in.
While I am encouraged that we took this bipartisan step today, we still have a lot of work to do to get this reauthorization across the finish line. I will continue to be a voice for Washington state workers and small businesses and fight for this reauthorization for as long as it takes, until it gets done.”
