Sen. Murray Announces New Investments in Community Health Centers Across Washington State

Murray pushed for new funding in FY16 budget agreement to support renovation and expansion of WA health centers

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray, (D-WA), top Democrat on the Senate Labor, Health, and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee, issued the following statement applauding a new federal investment of $5 million to support the renovation and expansion of Washington state community health centers.

“Community health centers play a critical role in helping patients get health care when and where they need it, and I’m pleased that today’s announcement will help more families receive primary care and preventive services right in their own communities,” said Senator Murray. “I look forward to continuing to work to expand access to quality, affordable health care in Washington state and across the country.”

Boosting support for community health centers in Washington state and nationwide was a key priority for Senator Murray in the fiscal year 2016 budget negotiations. Earlier today, President Obama announced over $260 million in funding for 290 health centers in 45 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, which will support facility improvements and construction and allow health centers to provide critical primary care to more families.
