Murray Statement on West Virginia Mine Tragedy

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray, chair of the Senate HELP Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety, released the following statement on the death of 25 miners yesterday in Whitesville, West Virginia:

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, co-workers, and communities devastated by yesterday’s tragedy in Whitesville, West Virginia. Coming so soon after an accident that killed five workers in my home state of Washington, this is just one more reminder that we can never stop fighting to protect our workers. As chair of the Senate committee overseeing workplace safety, I am going to be examining this tragedy closely as more information comes out and working to determine what needs to be done to make sure our workers remain safe.”
