(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the Boeing KC-46 Tanker program receiving a U.S. Air Force contract to build the next-generation aerial refueling tanker, the KC-46A:
“After last year’s long and hard-fought effort, I am proud to say the decision made by the Pentagon – one year ago today – has proven to be the best one for our military, our taxpayers and our nation’s aerospace workers.
“And I am pleased to hear Boeing is meeting their commitments and plans to deliver the first 18 combat-ready tankers by 2017.
“This decision was also a major victory for Washington state’s aerospace workers who have shown us – time and time again – they have the skills and know-how to deliver world-class products for our men and women in uniform.
“And it is consistent with President Obama’s message in front of thousands of Boeing workers just last week in Everett that, ‘This company is a great example of what American manufacturing can do in a way that nobody else in the world can do it.’”
