Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed an unprecedented version of the Farm Bill that includes no aid for low-income families. Senator Murray today joined with 16 other Senators to urge that nutrition programs included in the Farm Bill be maintained.
“The Farm Bill passed by the House today puts politics before people. For the first time in 40 years, on a strictly partisan basis, the House version of this important bill does not include any food assistance for millions of low-income families who rely on federal help to put food on the table each day.
“I will not support a Farm Bill that doesn’t include important food assistance programs, and that’s why I’ve joined 16 other Senators to urge our colleagues to maintain the critical nutrition programs that are a basic and vital part of this legislation.”
