(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee today called on Bush to make a real investment in air travel by ending his veto threat of Congress’ Transportation Appropriations Bill.
"Congress is taking flight delays seriously by refusing to accept President Bush’s proposed funding cuts for airports and air traffic control modernization. The President has called Congress’s efforts to restore these cuts ‘irresponsible” and “excessive.’
"The President is threatening to veto the Transportation Appropriations Bill that makes investments to build airport capacity at the same time that he is voicing concern about delays. Only someone who flies on Air Force One could make those two statements at the same time. Travelers will have President Bush to thank as they wait at the gate and on the runway, this holiday weekend."
