Murray Receives an A Grade for Her Support of Middle Class Americans

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray, a key member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and a leading voice for the middle class in Congress, has received an ‘A’ for her efforts to improve care for our nation’s current and aspiring middle class.  Murray received the score on the 2008 Congressional Report Card released today by the nonpartisan group, Drum Major Institute for Public Policy (DMIPP).

“Today, middle class families are worried.  They see retirement savings slipping away, housing prices dropping and they are uncertain about the future,” Senator Murray said.  “With pink-slips being handed out throughout the state of Washington and the country, some families find themselves unable to make rent, pay for college and cope with the high costs of health care. I believe that Congress can do better in our mission to support middle class families and I will continue to work to see that families on Main Street get the help they need.”

The DMIPP Report Card grades every member of Congress on his or her leadership and voting record on issues important to the nation’s middle class families. The scores are based on votes taken in the 110th Congress on such issues as the Higher Education Act, better regulation of toy safety and the home mortgage crisis.
