(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement on the release of President Obama’s FY13 budget proposal.
“Budgets are about choices and priorities, and this one puts middle class families first. It invests in jobs, training, and infrastructure to get our economy back on track and our workers back on the job. And it takes a balanced approach by calling on the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share so that the critical work of reducing our deficit and debt doesn’t fall solely on the backs of middle class families and the most vulnerable among us.
“I am very pleased that President Obama’s budget emphasizes investments in worker training and education. A skilled and educated workforce has been the engine of our economy for generations, and we need to make sure that leadership continues in the 21st century global economy. I also commend his continued strong support of our nation’s veterans to make sure we are giving them the care they deserve and helping them get back on the job when they come home. And I am very glad that this budget includes strong investments in Washington state priorities, like transportation infrastructure and Hanford cleanup.
“Republicans have shown again and again that they will do anything to protect the richest Americans and biggest corporations from paying their fair share, even at the expense of our economy and our nation’s future. I urge them to finally put politics aside and work with us to enact the kind of fair policies included in this budget that work for middle class families and will help get our country back on track.”
