Murray Congratulates Redmond Company on $3 Million Contract to Support American Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan

(SEATTLE, WA) – Today U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash) congratulated B.E. Myers & Company of Redmond, Washington on receiving a $3 million contract to provide hundreds of laser targeting devices to U.S. Special Operations troops currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Murray, as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, secured $3 million in the Senate to ensure that U.S. forces get the equipment they need as quickly as possible.

“I want to congratulate everyone at B.E. Meyers for building a product that’s helping our troops do their work safely in Iraq and Afghanistan,” Murray said. “Our state produces many of the innovative products that our soldiers rely on, and I was proud to secure this funding in the Senate.”

The family-owned company employs about 45 people in Redmond and plans to hire more employees to meet its growing production needs.

“Nancy and I are pleased to thank Senator Murray for her leadership in securing the funding in the Senate Defense Appropriations Bill that allowed us to win this contract,” said Brad Meyers, who with his wife Nancy co-owns B.E. Meyers and Company.

The funding will allow the U.S. Special Operations Command to purchase several hundred additional IZLID units (Infrared Zoom Laser Illuminator/Designator). These portable devices help American pilots and ground forces “Own the Night” by targeting and illuminating objects with great accuracy at long distances.

The U.S. Special Operations Command designated the units as a “critical, unfunded requirement.” As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Murray secured $3 million for this critical requirement in the Senate.
