Agreement protects 722,000 Washington state Medicare beneficiaries from premium increases, a key Murray priority
(Washington, D.C.) – Today U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) applauded the inclusion of critical protections for Washington state seniors in the bipartisan budget agreement announced this morning. The agreement ensures that hundreds of thousands of Washington state Medicare beneficiaries will not face premium spikes that were scheduled to go into effect next year.
“I’m glad to see that this bipartisan budget agreement includes a key priority I’ve been pushing for—and that is protecting 722,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Washington state and millions more across the country from a spike in their health care costs next year. Our seniors should have a health care system that works for them and puts their needs first, and this bipartisan agreement is an important step toward that goal.”
Murray previously cosponsored and advocated for the “Protecting Medicare Beneficiaries Act of 2015” to ensure that Medicare premiums and deductibles would not increase in 2016.
