Murray Applauds VA Selection of Walla Walla for New Community Vet Center

(Washington D.C.) – Today, U.S Senator Patty Murray released the following statement applauding the selection of Walla Walla for a new Vet Center. VA Vet Centers provide readjustment counseling and outreach services to combat veterans.

"I am pleased that the VA has recognized the needs of the Walla Walla veterans community," said Senator Patty Murray. "Especially now, with so many of our troops overseas and more and more veterans coming home struggling with PTSD and other psychological health issues, it is imperative that veterans have a support system in their communities.”

Walla Walla is one of 28 communities nationwide that the VA announced will be getting new community Vet Centers.

Veterans who served in combat are eligible for care at a VA Vet Center at no cost, as are their families for military-related issues. Also eligible are veterans who were sexually assaulted or harassed while on active duty and the families of service members who die on active duty.

Senator Murray is a leader in the Senate in fighting for veterans, and has a long history of working to ensure that Walla Walla veterans have the resources they need and deserve.

Last month, Senator Murray’s bill to authorize construction of a new outpatient clinic at the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center in Walla Walla passed the full Senate by unanimous consent. The VA approved funding for the design and construction of the clinic last November, and Senator Murray fought hard to ensure that authorization for the program passed through the Senate.
