Murray Applauds Boeing’s Sale of Aircraft to China

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray today praised the signing of a contract authorizing the sale of Boeing aircraft to China as a boon for Washington state workers and international trade. The 30 plane purchase – worth more than $2 billion – will help narrow the U.S. trade gap with China and provide jobs for Boeing workers in Washington state.

Senator Murray released the following statement about the deal:

“This sale is great news for Washington state. It not only means jobs for Washington workers, but also maintains Boeing’s status as the leading supplier of aircraft to the Chinese market.

With the global downturn in aviation, China’s marketplace is more important and more competitive than ever before. I will continue to work with Boeing to make sure our workers have every opportunity to compete for Chinese sales against a determined Airbus.

Aircraft sales to China will both create and sustain jobs in Washington state. China is a tremendously important market for our state’s aircraft, technology, agricultural goods and services.

Washington state and China have long enjoyed a relationship that has been beneficial for our people, and this aircraft sale is one important example of the many constructive ties between Washington state and China. Thirty aircraft is a significant sale, but the potential market in China is far larger, and we must continue to strongly advocate for the sale of Washington state products in China in order to grow our economy.”
