(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.) has named Bill Kamela to be her Staff Director for the Employment, Safety and Training Subcommittee. In February, Murray was chosen to serve as the Ranking Democrat on the Subcommittee, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP).
Prior to his appointment as Senator Murray’s Labor Staff Director, Kamela served as a Chief of Staff for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration, as a Director of Government Affairs for the National Urban Coalition. He was a labor staff member for Congressman Gus Hawkins, former Chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee.
“I am extremely pleased to have Bill joining my staff,” Senator Murray said. “Bill brings a wealth of senior level policy experience on workforce and labor issues and will be a strong asset to our team.”
“Senator Murray is one of the Senate’s leading voices for working families,” Kamela said. “I look forward to helping Senator Murray address the labor and employment issues facing Washington state and the nation.”
During the current session of Congress, the primary responsibility of the Employment, Safety and Training Subcommittee will be the reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Kamela will work closely with Washington state’s labor, workforce and business communities to ensure that the state’s concerns are addressed in the reauthorization of WIA.
