(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.) today announced a $17.6 million grant for runway improvement projects at Boeing Field.
As the top Democrat on the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, Murray helped to secure the Department of Transportation grant which will help rehabilitate runway 13R/31L and the Bravo Taxiway at Boeing Field.
“Maintaining the function and safety of our runways is a top priority for our region,” Senator Murray said. “Thanks to this grant, Boeing Field can make the improvements it needs to run safely, at full capacity, and continue to serve as one of the most important economic hubs in the Seattle area.”
Boeing Field’s primary runway suffered significant damage during the Nisqually Earthquake of 2001. While most of the earthquake damage was repaired quickly, the pavement continues to settle and deteriorate and without these critical federal dollars these problems could lead to increasingly frequent repairs and could further limit operations at the airport.
