(WASHINGTON) – Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation will release a discretionary grant in the amount of $11.59 million to the Port of Seattle to fund the construction of a third runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Senator Murray, the highest ranking Democrat on the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, secured these funds as part of the Transportation Appropriations bill.
“It is crucial that Washington’s runways operate safely and at full capacity,” Murray said. “Because of local weather and the existing layout of the airport, Sea-Tac faces unique challenges. I am pleased that this grant brings us a step closer to being able to improve safety and operations at Sea-Tac.”
