Sen. Patty Murray announced Friday that
Link light rail’s connection to Sea-Tac Airport will open at 10 a.m. on
Dec. 19, just in time for holiday travelers.
The 1.7-mile line from Tukwila to the airport will complete Sound
Transit’s inaugural line, which runs to Westlake Center in downtown
Seattle. Light rail to Tukwila opened July 18, with shuttle buses
carrying riders from the Tukwila terminus to the airport while
construction on the airport station was ongoing.
Murray joined Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels for a news conference at the
close-to-complete light-rail station outside the airport along
International Boulevard. The station connects to the airport’s parking
garage via a pedestrian bridge. Luggage carts will be available at the
station.
“You can step off a plane from anywhere in the world and hop on the
light rail and be in downtown Seattle in 36 minutes,” Murray said.
