(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chairman of the Senate Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Subcommittee, applauded Sound Transit’s progress on the University Link project.
“We’ve already seen what light rail can do for the economy in the Puget Sound, and I’m thrilled that construction of Sound Transit’s University Link extension allows them to explore an early opening of light rail service to Capitol Hill and the University of Washington. This would be great news for commuters, for businesses, and for our region’s economy,” Senator Murray said.
As chairman of the THUD Appropriations Subcommittee, which oversees America’s federal transportation funding, Senator Murray has long advocated for Sound Transit in Washington, D.C. Throughout her career, Senator Murray has secured more than $1 billion to build and grow Sound Transit’s light rail system.
