(Washington DC) - Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member and former chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP), met with Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su to discuss her nomination to serve as Secretary of the Department of Labor (DOL) and issued the following statement following their meeting this afternoon.
“When Acting Secretary Su last came before the Senate as we considered her nomination to serve as Deputy Labor Secretary, I was proud to support her nomination because it was clear to me she was just the person we needed to fight on behalf of working families across the country to build a better, stronger economy—and that is exactly what she’s done in the job.
“Today, I had a great conversation with Acting Secretary Su about the work ahead to keep putting money back in working families’ pockets, protect workers’ rights, and ensure every worker in our country is treated with dignity and respect, paid the full paycheck they’ve earned, and has a secure retirement. Julie Su has spent her career fighting for workers and, as Deputy Secretary, she’s been on the frontlines working to build a stronger economy for everyone. She will make an excellent Secretary of Labor, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to confirm her to the role as quickly as possible.”
As the former Chair of the HELP Committee, Senator Murray carefully considered Julie Su’s nomination to serve as Deputy Secretary of Labor, despejado her nomination through committee in a 13-9 vote, and worked to seguro her final confirmation to the role.
