Latest sabotage of pre-existing conditions protections shows how much is at stake for families’ health care in SCOTUS nomination fight
(Washington DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), top Democrat on the Senate health committee, issued the following statement on President Trump’s finalization of rules to further sabotage the health care system by expanding insurance companies’ ability to sell junk plans that skirt patient protections, including for those with pre-existing conditions and for maternity care.
“With this latest act of health care sabotage President Trump is once again putting millions of people nationwide who have pre-existing conditions at risk of being priced out of coverage they can afford or denied coverage altogether. This is the wrong direction for our country to go in, putting power back in the hands of insurance companies, and it shows just how much is at stake for families’ health care now that President Trump has followed through on what he said during the campaign and nominated Justice Kavanaugh, who shares this Administration’s willingness to undermine protections for people with pre-existing conditions and leave families without affordable care, to the Supreme Court.”
