Washington DC – On Wednesday, January 17th at 10:00 AM ET, ahead of the anniversary of Roe contra Wade, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) will hold a briefing on the state of abortion rights in America, the chaos and cruelty of state abortion bans, and the need to pass the Ley de protección de la salud de la mujer to restore Roe contra Wade. The briefing will be co-hosted by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV).
Senate Democrats will have the opportunity to hear from and question panelists at the briefing, who include Dr. Austin Dennard, a patient plaintiff in the Zurawski v. Texas case, Jessica Valenti, author of the Abortion Every Day newsletter, and Dr. Serina Floyd, Chief Medical Officer for Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC. The briefing will take place from 10AM ET-1PM ET and will be fully open press.
Senators Murray, Stabenow, Klobuchar, Baldwin, Warren, and Cortez Masto issued the following joint statement:
“Republicans’ decades-long crusade to overturn Roe contra Wade has created an unacceptable reality in states across America, where women are forced to carry nonviable pregnancies, suffer medical emergencies, and wait until their lives are in jeopardy to get necessary health care.
“Senate Democrats will use this opportunity to lay bare the pain and suffering we are seeing across the country, and we hope it will serve as yet another powerful call to action that we must use every tool at our disposal to work towards a future where every woman in America can make their own decisions about their bodies, their lives, and their pregnancies—without interference from politicians.
“Senate Democrats will keep fighting at every turn to make certain every American understands why we need to restore Hueva and protect every woman’s right to an abortion.”
