Washington DC - Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member and former chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, issued the following statement following Senate confirmation of Jessica Looman to be Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division at the Department of Labor. Looman was confirmed this afternoon by a vote of 51-46.
“The Wage and Hour Division’s work is absolutely essential to making sure American workers get the pay and family and medical leave they are owed, and that critical child labor protections, including protections against exploitative and abusive child labor, are being enforced. This work is fundamental to the health and wellbeing of our workforce and the strength of our economy—and Jessica Looman is an excellent choice to lead the Wage and Hour Division at this critical moment. She has the experience, the temperament, and the understanding of the issues to make sure WHD fulfills its fundamental responsibilities to workers across America—I am proud to support her nomination and look forward to continuing to work with her in this new position.”
