Annual defense bill, which includes three year extension of Impact Aid funding, set to pass both chambers of Congress

(Washington, D.C.) –Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement after the Senate voted to break a filibuster on the Defense Authorization bill, which includes a three year extension of Impact Aid provisions. Impact Aid funding is provided to school districts that educate a significant number of federally-connected children, such as those that live on military bases or reservations.

“I was proud to fight for these provisions that will give students and schools in in our military and tribal communities across Washington state the federal support and stability they deserve,”  said Senator Murray. “I heard from so many parents, teachers, and administrators in these communities about how important this funding source is for their students, and I am going to keep working to make sure the federal government is investing in education and doing

The extension also includes language to expedite the Impact Aid funding allocation process. Currently, many school districts are still waiting for Impact Aid that was appropriated as long as five years ago, forcing schools to tighten budgets and increase the burden on local taxpayers.
